The town of Canaan is often referred to locally by the name of its principal constituent village, Falls Village. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town has a total region of 33.3 square miles (86.2 km ), of which 33.0 square miles (85.3 km ) is territory and 0.3 square mile (0.9 km ) (0.99%) is water.
