The populace was 11,951 at the 2010 census. Griswold contains one borough, Jewett City, and also contains the villages of Doaneville, Rixtown, Glasgo, Hopeville, and Pachaug.
According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town has a total region of 37.1 square miles (96.0 km2), of which 34.7 square miles (89.9 km2) is territory and 2.4 square miles (6.1 km2), or 6.37%, is water.
